ABSTRACT
This article addresses a topic related to the genius
of a contemporary musician who continues to present his entire creation to his
fans, along with his bandmates. This is Duff McKagan, the original bassist for
Guns n' Roses, responsible for producing international music classics that have
become epic over the years. He became an erudite based on his musical
experience, built through contact with the underground punk rock style and his
time in around 31 bands of the genre, before joining Guns, playing several
types of instruments. The linearity with which Duff explores the sound of his
bass, leaving no open spaces, allows us to hear his melody as such, containing
just the right amount of weight and the exact speed to prevent the listener
from getting distracted by Slash's bold and radical maneuvers. This is a
musical phenomenon, something that is rarely seen in the history of music,
especially with regard to this instrument, in particular, since everyone is
accustomed to its deep and heavy sound. Michael Andrew McKagan, born on
February 5, 1964, became known in the world of international heavy music as
Duff McKagan, especially driven by the success of his band Guns N' Roses. He is
one of the rare musicians who did not make an extreme effort to let the shine of
his success and his genius take him out of his quiet and reserved world,
although he felt, late in life, that he was being overshadowed in his band,
even though he was one of the pillars of their music.
